Eastern Africans are minority group originating primarily from Ethiopia, Eritrea, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, and Djibouti. More than 80% of those who have immigrated to the United Kingdom live in London borough Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark area. These families have been fleeing the ravages of war for several years. They bear many wounds: physiological from bombings and psychological from war related trauma. The parents in these families are ill prepared to address their own personal mental health needs and the mental health and developmental needs of their children. Once these families arrive in the United Kingdom they become the victims of another type of trauma: the trauma of assimilating into a new culture.
